If you come via expressway:
Drive on the expressway from the Chitose I.C. and then proceed to National Route 230 from the Abuta-Toyako I.C. Drive through downtown Toya and then on National Route 230 toward Lake Toya. It is approximately 130 km. (approx. 2 hr.)
If you travel on national highways:
Drive on National Route 36 toward Sapporo and downtown Chitose. Turn left in downtown Chitose on to Prefectural Road No. 16 toward Lake Shikotsu. Turn left toward Tomakomai at the intersection with National Route 453, and turn right at the next intersection and drive on National Route 276 toward Bifue. At the intersection with National Route 453 in Otaki, Date City, turn left and drive on National Route 453 toward Lake Toya. Keep driving on National Route 453 to get to Lake Toyako. It is approximately 100 km. (approx. 2 hr.)
* If there is no snow cover, driving on ordinary roads en route to Lake Shikotsu and Otaki would cover a shorter distance than traveling along the expressway. Therefore, you can leisurely enjoy your drive through Shikotsu-Toya National Park while viewing the natural magnificence of Hokkaido.
From downtown Sapporo, drive on National Route 230 to Rusutsu and then to Toyako Onsen via Jozankei and the Nakayama Pass. (approx. 2 hr.)
Drive on National Route 5 to the north, and drive on National Route 37 from Oshamambe. From Toyoura, drive on National Route 230 to Toyako Onsen. (approx. 3 hr.)
* From the JR Toya Station to Toyako Onsen, use either a Donan bus or a taxi.
Take "Express Toya" operated by Donan Bus (North 6, West 3, Kita-ku).
It departs from the bus stop for group tourists in front of the North Exit of the JR Sapporo Station at 13:00.
* Reservations required; the bus service may be suspended depending on the state of reservations.
* The bus departs from the hotel at 10:00 on the following day.
Take the Donan Bus "Bound for Toyako Onsen" at the Sapporo Station Bus Terminal and get off at the "Chuo Dori" Bus Stop at Toyako Onsen.
